Our Story
Love & Flowers
Welcome! We are the Calloways, the husband and wife team behind Blue Mountain Flowers, a small flower farm located in Ronda, NC.
The story of our farm began in spring 2021. We were newly engaged and planning a September wedding. Mikayla decided to save money by arranging her bouquet from dried flowers. It was then that she began to wonder… could she also grow the cut flowers for the reception?
With a generous donation of family heirloom zinnia seeds and dahlia bulbs from Mikayla's mamaw’s collection, she got to growing. Come wedding time, parents, aunts and friends helped to harvest flowers from her garden as well as from the gardens of her mom and both grandparents. In the end it was a beautiful day. The home grown flowers made the day all the more special to us.
Our love for ✨cut flowers✨ was born.
In summer 2022 Mikayla grew the same zinnias seeds and dahlia bulbs, along with some other backyard blooms and began to make bouquets. She learned a lot by selling bouquets that fall at the Wilkes County Farmers Market.
In 2023, this hobby-turned-dream officially became a small business. The name Blue Mountain Flowers comes from Mikayla's beloved Ashe county mountains where she learned to love gardening. Our logo is an artistic interpretation of the view of these mountains from our family farm land in Wilkes County. If you look closely, you will notice our logo features the mountain range from Elk Knob (homeplace of mamaw who started it all) all the way to Mount Jefferson (where Mikayla's flower loving mama raised her), representing a heritage of love and flowers. The sunrise over the mountains is a zinnia and represents the hopeful future of this flower farming adventure in Wilkes County.
Thank you for joining us on this journey!
The best is yet to bloom.
With love and flowers,
Mikayla & Steven Calloway

Meet Mikayla
Mikayla has always loved to garden and, as for her love of flowers, she got it honest. She learned to love growing things by helping her grandparents and mama grow family vegetable gardens. Most special of all, her mamaw taught her to grow and love dahlias and zinnias - which started this adventure! On the farm, Mikayla manages the seed starting calendar and planting schedule, runs the social media and does the floral design work. She enjoys meeting new flower friends at the farmer's market. She loves to hear your flower stories, especially the special memories of loved ones that flower bring to mind.

Meet Steven
Steven is a life-long farmer who grew up raising broiler chickens and angus cattle here in Ronda. He also has experience teaching agriculture, which makes him a great encyclopedia of all things ag related. While cows are his first and truest love, Steven also loves growing plants and graciously helps out on the flower farm. He is the chief tractor operator and the mastermind behind all things irrigation, pest and disease control, fertilizer and soil health. He makes our plants (and Mikayla) the happiest around!
P.S. His nickname is "Captain Plant-It", find out why here.
